recondite querencia

In 2008, Icelandic singer Bjork’s pro-Tibet outburst at a Shanghai concert infuriated Beijing, which immediately launched a crackdown to tighten controls on foreign singers performing in China.

A while back I posted the very first Trunkards fan artwork. Well, today I have the pleasure of bringing you the very first Trunkards fan filk, courtesy of Orpheus at Shattered Corpse.  This was inspired by last week’s 150th anniversary strip and is to the tune of Paul Simon’s “The Boy In The Bubble.”  Thanks, Orpheus!

"It was a slow day
And the bar was empty
But for elephants conversing on their stools.

There was a bright light
It shattered through the ambiance
It was Slim making a grand entrance
Like John Wayne into a strange saloon

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long-distance call
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to an exoplanet far away
Lying fallow in its Goldilocks zone
These are the days of miracle and wonder
So don’t cry, baby, don’t cry
Don’t cry

It was a dry wine
And it swept across their palates
Like siroccos in the hot Morroco sun
but the lads sat,
Accepting and Welcoming,
yet staid in what they came for,
Asked what the barkeep had on tap

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long-distance call
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to an exoplanet far away
Awaiting our arrival patiently
These are the days of miracle and wonder
So don’t cry, baby, don’t cry
Don’t cry

It’s a turnaround jump shot
The Federation’s jumpstart
It’s Elon Musk and SpaceX, maybe Tesla, on the pop charts
Medicine is magical and magical is art
Thinking of the Boy in the Bubble
And the baby with the baboon heart

And I believe
These are the days of humans leaving Earth behind
Radio in a growing lightspeed sphere
Staccato signals of constant information
As Blue Cowl introduces us to distant atmospheres
And the minds there,
and baby

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long-distance call
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all, oh yeah
The way we look to an exoplanet far away
Eggs in one basket never more
These are the days of miracle and wonder
Eggs in one basket nevermore
no more, no more,
Eggs in one basket nevermore”
